Does PHapp® work without internet?
Limited offline access; internet required for new alerts
PHapp needs an internet connection to load alerts.
Without a Connection
When you are offline, PHapp may still show what it last loaded, but it cannot check for new or updated alerts, so it cannot show anything issued since it last connected.
What Requires Internet
You need an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data) to:
- Receive new alerts in real-time
- Update alert status (e.g., when an alert expires or is updated)
- Add or modify monitoring locations
- Change notification settings
- Access web-based resources linked from alerts
Other Ways to Get Alerts
- SMS/Text: Alerts are delivered as text messages over a basic cell signal, with no internet connection or app needed
- Web: Read alerts from any browser at ph.app when you have a connection
Notifications are not guaranteed to arrive, and PHapp does not promise to deliver ones you missed while offline. When you reconnect, open PHapp to see the latest alerts.
Best Practices
To lower the chance of missing an alert:
- Use more than one notification channel (app push and SMS)
- Enable SMS/text alerts as a reliable backup that works with limited connectivity
- Ensure your device has cellular data enabled for PHapp
- Allow background data usage for the app
- Keep your device charged during emergencies
