How can I install the beta version of the app?

Step-by-step guide to installing the beta version

Once you've been accepted into the beta program, installing the beta version is straightforward. Use the link that matches your device.

For iOS (iPhone/iPad)

Beta distribution on iOS uses Apple's TestFlight app. If you don't already have TestFlight installed, the first tap will send you to the App Store to install it — after that, you'll need to come back and tap the join link a second time to actually join the beta.

Installation Steps:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, tap the iOS join link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/Ed3IIqyP
  2. If you don't have TestFlight yet, the App Store will open and prompt you to install it. Install TestFlight, then return to this page (or your email) and tap the same link again.
  3. TestFlight opens automatically and shows the PHapp® beta.
  4. Tap "Accept" to join the beta.
  5. Tap "Install" to download the beta version.
  6. The beta app will appear on your home screen.

For Android

You can join the Android beta two ways — directly from your Android device, or from any web browser (useful if you want to opt in before picking up your phone).

Option 1 — Join on Android:

  1. On your Android device, tap the Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.azdhs.covidwatch.android
  2. Scroll down to the "Join the beta" section and tap "Join".
  3. Tap "Update" if you already have the regular version installed, or "Install" if you don't.
  4. The beta version will install or update automatically.

Option 2 — Join on the web:

  1. In any browser, open the Play Store testing page: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/gov.azdhs.covidwatch.android
  2. Sign in with the Google account you use on your Android device.
  3. Click "Become a tester".
  4. Open the Play Store on your Android device. The beta version will be available as an install or update on the PHapp® listing.

Switching Back to Regular Version

You can leave the beta program at any time:

  • iOS: Open TestFlight, select PHapp®, and tap "Stop Testing".
  • Android: Visit the PHapp® page in Google Play and tap "Leave" under the beta program section, or open the web testing page and click "Leave the program".
